The rodeo, a primary fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Club, will take place at the club?s Basil Gilchrist Unit at 600 Black Creek Road in Gadsden. It will feature calf roping, bareback bronco riding, team roping, saddle bronco riding and barrel races.
Pam Dawson, the agency?s chief professional officer, said several fun events will be featured both nights at this year?s rodeo.
The first, she said, is a best-dressed cowboy and cowgirl contest for children ages 10 and younger. Dawson said there will be first-, second- and third-place winners for both cowgirls and cowboys.
The Gold Rush, sponsored by Family Savings Credit Union, will allow children ages 10 and younger to search a haystack for various coins placed in the hay. Dawson said the children will be able to keep whatever they find.
The Diamond Rush will be for women ages 18 and older. Participants will race to the end of the arena to grasp one of 12 envelopes. The woman with the envelope containing a certificate from sponsor Haywood Jewelers will win a piece of fine jewelry from the store.
Organizers also will offer two chances each night to win $25 gift cards from Walmart. Dawson said rodeo programs will contain a hidden surprise. At intermission, announcers will tell program holders what they?re looking for, and the person who finds the surprise will win the gift card.
Dawson said people must have a program, which can be purchased at the gate for $1, to participate.
Food vendors at this year?s rodeo will include Philly cheese steak sandwiches, grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, funnel cakes and Perfect Pucker lemonade.
?We?re going to have some really great food vendors,? Dawson said.
?Please come hungry. There will be plenty of choices for dinner both those nights,? she said.
Gates will open at 6:30 p.m., and the show will begin at 8 p.m. each night.
Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the gate for adults, and $6 in advance and $8 at the gate for children ages 7 to 12. Children younger than 6 will be admitted free, two per paid adult.
Advance tickets can be purchased in Etowah County at Boys & Girls Club units or at Kmart Little Faces Doll Shop and most area banks, including Community Credit Union and Family Savings Credit Union locations. Advance tickets can be purchased in Marshall County at Alexander Dodge, Superior Bank and Piggly Wiggly.
All proceeds from the rodeo directly benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Alabama and its units in Gadsden, at Gaston School in Etowah County and Scottsboro. Dawson said the proceeds go to enhance programs in the agency?s five core areas ? character and leadership development, education and career development, health and life skills, arts and sports, fitness and recreation.
