Throughout the next few months as the nation builds up to the event, we will be celebrating what makes Britain great.
The Sun will get things started by taking over the airwaves with our rendition of a scene from the film Chariots of Fire.
Our superb TV advert features the film's star, Nigel Havers, sitting on a deckchair reading Britain's No1 paper while people from all walks of life run in slow motion down a beach to the movie's iconic theme tune.
A longer 60-second version will be broadcast on ITV1 at 9.20pm on January 1 during the UK terrestrial premiere of Harry Potter and the Half Blood-Prince.
