A line of people, wanting to purchase the new Apple iPhone 4S, wait in line for a Sprint store to open in San Francisco, Friday, Oct. 14, 2011.

Among the millions of new iPhones sold since Saturday, many of them were to Sprint customers, who for the first ever, were given the option of buying the phone. But some are sharing regrets, irritated by the slow speed of the phone on Sprint's network nationwide.

The complaints are shared on a thread titled "iPhone 4S on 3G data network too slow to be useful" on Sprint's Community Forum, and they're from all over the country, with users sharing speed test comparisons.

"Using the iPhone 4S in Orange California, Speed results are anemic at best," posted "OhPooh." "... 0.10 Mbps down, 0.06 Mbps up, since Siri requires network connectivity, I am unable to use it, might have to switch back to T-Mobile .... or Verizon if I want to keep an iPhone 4S..."

"Same problem from Maryland," wrote "YASCORA."

"Pheww I thought it was just my iPhone. I am in Charlotte, NC with 5 bars and I can't even connect to 3G network!" posted "adotjdot." "I will return the phone and go back to Android if I can't even get better speeds."

We've asked Sprint to comment on the situation, and will update this post when we hear back.

One person, "4suser" shed some insight: "Hey guys, I called Sprint last night and they had me do a quick update and it seemed to help, but i'm still not crazy with the speeds i'm getting ... ? The Sprint person also admitted (after serious honey badgering) that the network was not handling all the new (phone) activations well and they were also experiencing problems with delayed texts and voicemail delivery."

The sooner Sprint fixes the situation, the better.? As has been reported, carrier is subsidizing each iPhone 4S by about $400 to get it down to the $200 price for the 16-gigabyte version, which it appears to be sold out online, as is the 32 GB version. A 64 GB version is still available.
