New England Patriots

Ridley's stock is on the rise.

Another week of fantasy football greatness is upon us, but along with all of the excitement and winnings potential still comes the fear of the dreaded RBBC situations around the league.

If you want to use guys like James Starks, BenJarvus Green-Ellis, or Thomas Jones, but aren?t entirely sure about their roles or values, this is the article for you. Check out our RBBC advice for week five, and apply it to your final roster moves when you play Daily Joust?s fantasy football games this week!

BenJarvus Green-Ellis vs. Stevan Ridley (New England Patriots)

I know the hype train is moving on down the tracks in regards to Ridley?s fantasy stock, but I?m going to ask you to stop shoveling the coal for at least one more week. These two guys are definitely in the midst of an unpredictable RBBC situation, but Ridley hasn?t reached a point where he?s a must-play guy, and The Law Firm?s touches are still good enough to warrant a play as a RB2.

Green-Ellis will eventually lose a ton of carries to Ridley, but it hasn?t happened yet (16 carries last week), and he?s still the team?s top option near the goal-line. If you need one of them, BJGE is still your guy for at least one more week.

James Starks vs. Ryan Grant (Green Bay Packers)

Starks was a nice sleeper pick last week, but now that Ryan Grant is healthy again, it?s hard to figure out which guy is going to be used where, or when. It seems the Packers change their tune on both backs about every other week, and in an offense that is dominated by the passing game, I?m not sure it?s worth your time or energy to figure out which is going to get more touches from week-to-week. Go with Starks if you must, but if you can help it, just avoid both of these guys, altogether.

Rashard Mendenhall vs. Isaac Redman (Pittsburgh Steelers)

This one isn?t a RBBC at all normally, but it could be this week, as Mendenhall has been very limited with hamstring injury. If he?s out, the tough call is done for you, and Redman is suddenly a bit of a sleeper play. If Mendy plays but is limited, either guy has a decent argument to be drafted as a sneaky play. I?d steer away from the situation if you can help it, but if Mendy is out and you feel good about Redman, he could be an interesting selection.

Thomas Jones vs. Dexter McCluster (Kansas City Chiefs)

Neither of these guys are dream plays right now, and if I were making decisions in KC, I might just give fullback Le?Ron McClain the shot he?s been asking for the past two seasons. However, the debate currently rests between Jones and McCluster, and if you need one of them, McCluster probably needs to be the guy. TJ is still getting the ball more as a true running back, but he?s not effective at all, and eventually the team is going to cave and get the ball into the more explosive McCluster?s hands as much as possible.

Willis McGahee vs. Knowshon Moreno (Denver Broncos)

This one is pretty simple. McGahee is actually producing at a solid level (two 100+ yard game in his past three contests), while Moreno hasn?t done anything worth mentioning this year ? even when healthy. McGahee has completely robbed the starting gig from Moreno, and he?s not looking back. Their matchup stinks this week, but McGahee is worth a glance at least, while Moreno needs to be completely ignored.

Matt Forte vs. Marion Barber (Chicago Bears)

Don?t get me wrong, I know Forte blew up last week, and I know there is no question that he?s an elite back. I also know there is zero doubt he?s the guy you want in fantasy games between these two Bears running backs. With that said, Barber is healthy now and he?s proven in the past to be an effective short yardage and goal-line back. Just keep an eye on his role going forward, as he could end up snagging some important carries from Forte in the future.

Mark Ingram vs. Pierre Thomas vs. Darren Sproles (New Orleans Saints)

Overall, Sproles probably holds the most value to the naked eye right now, as he?s heavily involved as a receiver and is much more explosive than his back-field counterparts in New Orleans. However, this could be the week the value shifts dramatically for the Saints? three running backs. They go up against a weak Panthers run defense, and I expect the rookie Ingram to take full advantage and post true breakout numbers.

Hopefully the above insight helped shed some light on a few of your final running back questions. Come back tomorrow morning for some pre-game injury updates as we continue to help you finalize your weekly fantasy football lineups!
