Jonathan Butler
Jonathan Butler is the founder of Brownstoner.com and the Brooklyn Flea. Brownstoner.com is Brooklyn's leading blog, focusing on topics like real estate, renovation, and restaurants. Launched in October 2004, the site currently attracts more online traffic than all the Brooklyn newspapers combined ? about 250,000 readers and almost two million pageviews per month. The Brooklyn Flea launched in Fort Greene in April 2008 and expanded to Williamsburg earlier this year, spawning a standalone artisanal food market called Smorgasburg in the process. The Flea has become the biggest and most-lauded outdoor market in New York City and, according Travel & Leisure, one of the four best in the world. Jonathan has received honors from the Municipal Art Society, Historic District Council and The Citizens Union for his work in community building and preservation. Prior to starting Brownstoner, Jonathan spent a decade as a journalist, venture capitalist and real estate investor. He has a BA in History from Princeton University and an MBA from NYU's Stern School of Business. He currently resides in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn with his wife and two children.

Long distance relationship (2) ? richysheart

After a long time in your long distance relationship, now it?s the time for the big decision. Moving in closer to each other or moving in together, before you do all this have a clear talk with the other person to see what will happen and your opportunity if you decide to move to her/his town. If you both make a commitment you should try to help the other person feel as comfortable in their potential new environment as possible. If the other person moves to your town, and is not happy with his/her life, you might drift apart and the relationship might end, therefore always try to make the other person happy and make them see that they made the right decision, talk about the positive aspect of the town you want them to move to, things and activities they could do, including potential job opportunities, because let?s be real on this one, if the other person cannot get a job in the town they decide to move to?with you, the relationship might go very sore, as the other person might feel worthless ?and might decide to move back to his/her town. ?And also try to find out if the person still feels the same about you, as talking from my personal experience you don?t want to move to for example Paris to be with your partner, and be dumped the next day as your partner was seeing someone else behind your back, therefore always make sure that you know if you both feel the same for each other. Think before you make this big step as sometimes it might be the wrong move, analyse the for and against and if possible have a ?trial period? when both of you live together and you stay in that town for a period of time to see if you?ll like it. As said before long distance is like any other relationship, so if you want to make it work you can.

U.S. Soldiers Take Laptops and BlackBerrys to Afghanistan (Time.com)

There are almost as many laptops as there are rifles scattered around the 2nd Squad's sleeping quarters in the old school at Combat Outpost (COP) Kowall. Mixed in with dust, sand, helmets and 40-mm grenades are Dells and MacBooks. The men who started out in 2001 as Generation Kill have transformed into Generation iPod. As technology has become miniaturized and more portable, U.S. soldiers have increasingly taken laptops, terabytes of movies and video-game systems into war zones to kill downtime.

Private First Class Andrew Napoli, 21, took a BlackBerry, a MacBook, an iPad, a PlayStation Portable video-game system, a terabyte external hard drive and a cell phone to Kandahar province's Arghandab River Valley when he was deployed in August 2010 with the 3rd Platoon of Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 66th Armored Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the 4th Infantry Division. Napoli says he spends a majority of his time on guard duty or foot patrol. Now there is less fighting, he says, he sometimes watches two or three movies a day.

It was a different situation last summer. For three months, from August to October last year, the newly arrived soldiers of the 3rd Platoon at COP Kowall were hit by Taliban fighters multiple times per day; foot patrols had frequent contact with the enemy. "There was no sleep, no nothing besides patrols, firefights and guard duty," Napoli says. Now, fighting has given way to boredom and routine as the troop surge has brought more stability to the valley. Surrounded by high walls and barbwire in a battle zone that was once one of the most violent in Afghanistan means there is not a lot to do besides guard, patrol and sleep. But that is the old Army. Now soldiers can watch movies on laptops and chat with friends online. (See photos of R&R at Kandahar Airfield.)

"All there is to do here is watch movies and play video games in your free time. It's nice for a couple hours to just take your mind out of here. No matter what else you do: you're working out, you're still at the gym at this COP; you play video games, you're still playing video games at the COP. But a movie is nice because you can just kind of sit there. There have been times when I'd hang a sheet over my bunk bed and sit there and watch a movie. Sometimes you'd forget where you are and you'd pull back the sheet and be like, 's--t, I'm still here,'" Napoli tells TIME.

A majority of the soldiers in the platoon brought laptops - anticipating the monotony of counterinsurgency warfare. "I kind of bought this laptop special for the tour because I knew it'd get destroyed. I didn't want to buy a nice one, so just got a $300 one," says Private First Class Sheldon Henry as he watches a crime drama between patrols. "If they didn't have their laptops?" says Sergeant Byren Gerber, the 2nd Squad's leader, "they'd probably get in fights." The eyes of Private First Class Greg Diette, who watches around 20 movies a week, open wide when he contemplates the question of what he would do without a laptop. "If I didn't have it?" he says, pausing. "No idea."

But laptops, movies, video games and iPods are not the only escapes. BlackBerrys have made an appearance in the combat zone as well. Of the roughly 30 soldiers in the platoon, five of them have the devices (the soldiers pay the monthly charges themselves). Napoli says he uses his "everyday. All day." Napoli's wife sent the device to him so they could stay in touch. "My wife updates me on her life. I listen mostly because my daily life doesn't change basically. But we'll send each other pictures once in a while so that we see each other in some sort of way," he says. (See photos of making movies in Afghanistan.)

But, even with all of the communications devices and ways to keep in touch, Napoli says that during the heavy fighting last year he did not tell his family what was happening. "My wife knows stuff happens. They're following the news, but if they would hear about it from me, they would think, 'O.K., that's really bad.'" The view that less information about the fighting is better is shared by most of the other soldiers. "I've never posted anything like, 'Oh, another firefight,' on Facebook," Private First Class Juan Lopez, 20, tells TIME.

Even if they do not do a live update on firefights, with all of the communications options out there - from Skype to Google Talk to AIM - it has become easier and easier to stay in constant touch. But this can present drawbacks - and dangers - in a war zone. "I'm really attached to my family. At one point, I would call home just about every other day. I started getting homesick, and I felt like it was interfering with my work. I'd be on patrol, and then I'd catch myself thinking about my mother and my father or my sisters, my nieces and nephews - just not paying attention to what's in front of me. So, I just quit calling home as much," says Lopez. Now, Lopez's family follows him on Facebook, reading his status updates - a way to stay in touch with less emotional commitment.

Other soldiers feel similar about all the methods they can now use to communicate with home. "For me - all this talk while I'm here - I hate it," says Napoli about his BlackBerry. "All the talking I do while I'm here, I don't like it. I'd rather be here the entire year and every once in a while just be like, 'Hey, I'm O.K.' If I didn't have this stuff, I'd be fine with that because I like to focus on my work here and pretend like the life back home doesn't even exist." (See if the U.S. can make amends after blowing up an Afghan town.)

The older guys in the platoon remember the Army before all of the entertainment and communications options were available - before all of the distractions and news from home. "The only thing we'd get was one 10-minute phone call a week," says Staff Sergeant John Fox, 32, of his deployment to Iraq in 2003. There were no public computer terminals available to the soldiers. Fox, who had his wife set up a Yahoo! Messenger account for him just days before this deployment, says there were "probably about three or four guys who brought out laptops" to Iraq in 2003. "It was just a bunch of guys all huddled around one laptop watching pirated DVDs."

Yet, even with all of the changes that have taken place in the past decade - the vast increase in interconnectedness, communications options and social-networking sites - troops, young and old alike, still agree that the traditional letter to a soldier still carries the most weight. "To me, a letter goes a long way. Nowadays it'll mean a lot more because somebody actually took the time out of their day to sit down and write," says Lopez, who has an ammo can full of saved letters. "A letter takes more time out of your day. E-mails and messages on Facebook, or anything like that, you do it on your phone. You know, you're sitting there while you're driving and you can send a text or whatever. But a letter, you have to write it, you have to wait for it."

Pre-Paid Legal Services Announces New Direction for the Company ...

ADA, Okla., Aug. 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ ? Following the June 30, 2011 acquisition of Pre-Paid Legal Services (PPL) by MidOcean Partners, the new owners are planning to announce a significant rebranding initiative and other program initiatives at the 2011 Leadership Summit in Dallas, Texas, September 7-10.

An estimated 10,000 independent associates from throughout the US and four provinces of Canada will attend the event at the American Airlines Center to hear first-hand the changes in direction of the company, now in its 40th year of operation.

PPLs new CEO Rip Mason and Chief Commercial Officer Alan Fearnley will share the new vision for the company, which will build upon the stability and strength of PPL while enhancing the potential for major growth initiatives moving forward.

From the beginning, Pre-Paid Legal Services has been a unique company, providing a high-quality legal service product through a direct selling business model, Rip Mason said. There is not another business like this in North America, and our plan is to rebrand the company and expand awareness and use of the companys products throughout North America, Mason said.

Following the acquisition of PPL by MidOcean, incoming Chief Commercial Officer Alan Fearnley invited the independent sales associates to consider the current market position of the company and its potential for growth. Using an analogy from the well known Warner Bros. Pictures film, The Matrix, Fearnley invited associates to take either the blue pill and maintain their current status or to take the red pill and discover the true potential of the company.

During this first Leadership Summit under the ownership of MidOcean Partners, we will introduce the rebranding of the company to our associates and show them the value of the red pill, Fearnley said. Fearnley and his team are scheduled to make their presentation during the morning session on Saturday, September 10, beginning at 10:00 am (CT).

In addition to this major announcement, the 2011 Leadership Summit will include a variety of daytime training and educational programs and evening awards and recognition ceremonies, September 9 and 10. Some of the leading PPL associates will be featured speakers and presenters, including: Brian Carruthers, Jeff Olson, Dave Savula, Darnell Self and Mark Smith. The 2011 Leadership Summit will also include two days of specialized training for independent associates who market legal plans to group audiences and to small business owners.

In conjunction with the Summit, PPL provider attorneys from throughout North America will attend the event and the PPL Attorney Resources Department will host an in-service training event for the Texas referral attorneys who offer legal services to PPL members.

Apple patent application keeps your private display private

It always bears repeating that just because a company applies for a patent doesn't mean the thing will ever see the light of day as a real product. But really, it's the outlandishness that makes these things so fun sometimes. The decidedly clunkily named "Obfuscating the Display of Information and Removing the Obfuscation Using a Filter" details a technology for obscuring information on an electronic device via the addition of "artifacts" or the manipulation of the display's "color, frequency or polarity." Aspects can be obscured by different methods at the same time, so that different information will be blocked for individual users all staring at the same display. Also interesting is the use of a filter to decode the information -- something like a pair of glasses coming between the user and the device, which can be detected by the device itself. Not a very Apple-like addition, but hey, you never know. Sometimes the future's so bright you gotta wear shades.

Increased focus on patient: By enabling healthcare professionals to document the patient encounter using the familiar method of dictation- transcription instead of using point and click templates, outsourced medical transcription service providers help the healthcare professionals focus on the patient rather than the documentation process resulting in better customer satisfaction. Medical Transcription Outsourcing ? Helps Foster Business Transformation

? Reduce overheads: This ensures that overheads incurred towards in-house medical transcription like real estate, equipment, information technology can be redirected to the core business of providing healthcare.

To put it in a nutshell, outsourced services can help foster business transformation. Medical Transcription Outsourcing ? Helps Foster Business Transformation

? Quicken reimbursements: Efficient creation of patient medical records help in accelerating reimbursements as patient medical records provide the base for coding and billing.

Medical Transcription Outsourcing ? Helps Foster Business Transformation

Outsourcing ensures that patient medical records are created accurately, delivered on a timely basis, transmitted through secure channels and using technology that provides multiple benefits while still being easy to use. Not only this outsourcing effectively results in cost savings as high as 40%-50% and also acts as a catalyst in quickening the revenue cycle.

The process of healthcare has evolved into a complex business requiring the efforts of the management, administrative; information technology and other non- healthcare related personnel to ensure that the healthcare facility can provide quality care while still remaining profitable. Admittedly the main role in the provision of quality care is that of the healthcare professionals, but the other staff in the healthcare facility play a vital role in ensuring that healthcare professionals can concentrate on the process of providing quality care by ensuring all other functions are taken care of.

Business transformation has been defined as a key executive management initiative that attempts to align people, process and technology initiatives of an organization more closely with the business strategy and vision of the organization. This is done by aligning resources towards desired outcomes such as increased revenue and increased customer satisfaction.

Medical transcription services can help foster business transformation by providing services that help in achieving the desired outcome:

? Accuracy: This method of documenting the patient encounter ensures that the information in the patient medical records is captured with maximum accuracy using a quality assurance process that involves multiple levels. Creation of patient medical records through this process also helps preserve the narrative portion of the patient medical record, which is an important component for quality care, and risk management

Increased revenue: These services help in this aspect by providing support that helps in the following areas:

Medical transcription is the process of creating patient medical records from the audio of the healthcare professionals? encounter with patients. Though essentially this is the service provided, the process of rendering these services is much more complex involving significant investment of time, capital and resources to be effective and meet all the quality criteria. A good fix to ensure that patient medical records are created in a professional manner, meeting all the quality criteria is to outsource the entire patient medical record creation process to a professional service provider.

Customer satisfaction: The provision of quality healthcare requires quality information; outsourced medical transcription services enable this by providing services that include:

Written by Mediscribes

It can be seen that choosing the right medical transcription service provider can help foster business transformation.

? Reduce costs: Availing the services of a vendor also helps healthcare facilities save as much as 40% to 50% on cost of medical transcription. It also ensures that the fixed costs of having this activity in-house are essentially transformed to variable costs

- Help healthcare professionals concentrate on providing quality care: Transcription vendors help healthcare professionals retain the preferred and familiar method of documenting the patient encounter of dictation to transcription using familiar modes of dictation. This helps doctors/support staff/clinics/hospitals optimize their limited time and maximize their productivity resulting in better revenue.

What is business transformation and how do outsourced medical transcription services aid in business transformation?

HIPAA / HITECH compliance: These service providers provide HIPAA compliant services, which is essential to preserve the sanctity of the patient- healthcare professional relationship.

Similarly the process of healthcare draws inputs from various sources; some related to the healthcare field and some from other aspects that involve the business side of healthcare. To be effective and to function profitably in today?s competitive environment it is important to have good support for the smooth running the healthcare facility. Information regarding the process of care is one such aspect that plays a vital role in several aspects of healthcare including risk management and revenue management.

? EMR/ EHR adoption: Outsourced medical transcription services also enable the healthcare facility to adopt EMR/EHR by enabling transmission of data using HL7 interface. Transcription providers also provide editing and proofreading services for front-end speech recognition software transcripts.

To learn piano or keyboards can be a little disheartening when you concentrate on your playing for days on end to find that you do not appear to be getting anywhere. The main reason the majority students give up the piano, particularly in youngsters is a highly regarded lack of advancement. Here are a few tips to help you with your own personal practice sessions which ought to help you to progress faster.

Organize your practice time ? Build a little routine for your practice periods. The details of the routine will be very different from person to person dependent on the of music they are learning to play.

The first move to make when you sit down to practice is to warm up. A excellent way to try this is by practicing your scales for a bit, this may loosen your fingers and in the long run will help you to learn pieces in various keys.

As soon as you have finished the warmup you may then go on to working on your pieces. You ought to know after the first few times of practicing a new piece where the difficult sections are. Start with these sections just before you try to play the whole piece. Play the section with separate hands. Keep swapping hands though so as not to let the other hand get cold. Now play the troublesome passage with both hands together.

You can now try the entire piece from start to end with a faith that you will be more comfortable when it comes to the troublesome parts.

Always utilize a metronome when you play your scales and arpeggios and use it for your pieces too if they permit it. Set the metronome to a slower speed than is necessary initially which should help you to play the piece easily. Over the space of 1 or 2 days you can slowly start to increment the tempo of the metronome until you are playing it at speed. You could even benefit from playing the piece more than it should be simply to get your fingers really working and used to the piece.

You?ve got to learn how to relax while you are playing. Relax your fingers, your back and in reality your entire posture. If you are tense while you play then you?ll find it far more difficult to control your fingers and for your playing to flow. This is a little like studying how to ride a bike or drive a vehicle. To start with there are so many things to remember and coordinate but at some specific point it all of a sudden clicks and it all slots into place.

Daily practice by itself isn?t really enough to learn to play the piano correctly but a steady and structured practice routine will give you an advantage.

Take a look at the Rocket piano review site for more in-depth information and help on learning piano together with a number of appealing assessments on home learning courses and a free chord-sheet and starter course to piano playing.

All About Microcurrent Facial Toning ? Beauty, Health and Fitness

As baby boomers age, more advancements are being made in anti-aging products to meet their growing needs. Electronic facial machines, such as the Microcurrent Facial Toning system, which are designed to tighten and tone sagging facial muscles, are no exception.

Microcurrent is quickly becoming one of the hottest treatments in the anti-aging industry. Although a relatively new ?buzzword? in the industry, microcurrent has over 50 years of historical data and clinical trials to back up its anti-aging benefits. Aside from the fact that this treatment really works, one of the reasons microcurrent facial toning has become so popular is seeing the visible results after just one treatment.

Microcurrents are a low level form of electrical current that mirrors our bodies own electrical frequency. Microcurrent facial toning machines send safe, painless impulses to the muscles in your face, which help overly-tightened muscles to relax. This also helps under worked muscles regain strength. When this treatment is delivered by the hands of a skilled esthetician, this technology provides a very effective treatment which stimulates collagen and elastin production, increasing muscle tone and improving skin texture.

Facial toning treatment like this re-educates the facial muscles and restores them back almost to their original shape. Circulation is activated by microcurrent stimulation. Fine lines are improved or eliminated, product penetration is greatly enhanced. The visible results are dramatic as the face is lifted, firmed and toned to a more youthful appearance. The sense of instant gratification is greatly satisfying. Microcurrent facial toning is cumulative. It is best done in a series to achieve optimal results. The more treatments you receive, the more improvement you will see reflected in your face. Most people get at least 7-12 treatments to achieve their desired results. Then, a monthly maintenance program is encouraged to maintain the positive benefits.

Studies after 2-3 weeks have shown that elastic fibers in the dermis will double in size and increase by approximately 48%. Collagens in connective tissues were also found to increase nearly 14% and support a 38% increase of circulation to the areas being treated by microcurrents.

From acne healing to facial muscle tonification, microcuurent has certainly proven itself to be a powerful tool in combating the signs of aging. The human body literally operates on constant electrical signals from our brainwaves to our heartbeat. These type of facial treatments are essentially copying your natural electrical system. Your skin?s ability to control elasticity and tone are decided by chemical reactions between cells and the skin ? these reactions trigger electric impulses. These impulses tend to diminish with age and we lose elasticity, causing facial muscles to sag and wrinkle.

History has shown that many beauty and anti-aging techniques fade with the changing times, however, technologies such as microcurrent evolve with these changes. Kanani Pearl Spa, in Portland, Oregon offers such Microcurrent facial toning by Bio Therapeutics.

Serie A strike near after league rejects contract

updated 1:48 p.m. ET Aug. 24, 2011

ROME - The Italian league voted against adopting a collective contract signed by the players on Wednesday, raising the possibility of a Serie A strike.

The league voted 18-2 against the contract, standing firm in its desire to make two changes.

The clubs want to allow coaches to force unwanted players to train away from the first team. They also want players to pay a new solidarity tax that applies to high earners.

"The text signed by the players' association can't be signed if those two points are not integrated," Serie A president Maurizio Beretta said.

The players announced this month that they will strike if a new collective contract is not signed before the season opens. The conflict between the players and the league has been ongoing since the last collective contract expired in June 2010.

Cagliari and Siena were the two clubs that voted in favor of the contract.

After the vote, the Italian soccer federation delayed a meeting from Wednesday to Thursday.

"At the moment the conditions are not right to play," players' association president Damiano Tommasi said, according to the ANSA news agency. "The league's requests are (being used as an excuse). The federation meeting was postponed but I don't see what could change."

Meanwhile, coaches' association president Renzo Ulivieri chained himself to the gates of the soccer federation to protest a move allowing lower-level clubs to hire unlicensed coaches.

The players set two strike dates during the first half of last season, both of which were avoided with last-minute verbal agreements.

Serie A is expected to start on Saturday with Fiorentina at Siena in a Tuscan derby and defending champion AC Milan at Cagliari. On Sunday, it's: Napoli vs. Genoa; Atalanta vs. Cesena; Bologna vs. Roma; Inter Milan vs. Lecce; Lazio vs. Chievo Verona; Novara vs. Palermo; Parma vs. Catania; and Udinese vs. Juventus.

A strike by Spanish club players has already wiped out the opening weekend of the Liga.

While there have been numerous other threats over the years, the only time Serie A players went on strike was in March 1996. Among the issues then was the Bosman ruling, which established the right of players to switch clubs freely once their contracts expired, and said strict limits on foreigners were illegal.

Eradicating dangerous bacteria may cause permanent harm

Wednesday, August 24, 2011

In the zeal to eliminate dangerous bacteria, it is possible that we are also permanently killing off beneficial bacteria as well, posits Martin Blaser, MD, Frederick H. King Professor of Medicine, professor of Microbiology and chair of the Department of Medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center. His commentary is published in the August 25 edition of the journal Nature.

Dr. Blaser sounded the alarm to the medical community and to the general public, that the widespread use of antibiotics may be having unintended consequences causing permanent changes in the body's protective, friendly flora and causing harm to the body's natural defense system. This may be even more dangerous to health than the creation of resistant "superbugs," which have garnered much attention over the last few years.

By the time a child in the US or other developed countries reaches the age of 18, s/he has already had on average 10-20 doses of antibiotics. These are in addition to the antibiotics that may be given to women while they are pregnant, and which may affect the normal bacteria that mothers transmit to their children.

The discovery and use of antibiotics has helped to increase life expectancy. However they are non-discriminatory and destroy even friendly bacteria, not just harmful ones. Scientists have found that some of the beneficial bacteria may never recover and that these extinctions may lead to increased susceptibility to infections and disease. As a result, antibiotic use could be contributing to the increases in obesity, allergies and asthma, inflammatory bowel disease, and type 1 diabetes that are occurring throughout the developed world.

Dr. Blaser urges physicians to curtail the use of these drugs immediately, and recommends that narrow spectrum, and more targeted drugs be used in their place. To be successful, this shift will require a significant effort to develop new antibacterials and new diagnostic tests that will permit the use of targeted agents.

"I believe that doctors of the future will be replacing "lost" members of our normal flora in young children to diminish the risk of development of these important and chronic diseases," said Dr. Blaser.

How Do You Choose Motorcycle Sunglasses? ? Health & Fitness

Almost everybody would require a pair of sunglasses during their lifetime. For some, this eyewear is an aesthetic accessory, a way to express their fashion statement. But for a majority, sunglasses provide a way to protect the eyes from glare, dust and other miniscule particles that can get in the way of an otherwise clear vision. Such is the importance of motorcycle sunglasses for riders.

And if you are looking to buy these specs, then you have to be guided in choosing the best pair you can buy. For one, you have to know your needs count most. When choosing, look into the type of riding you usually engage in. Do you normally go for long distance or high-speed biking? For rides that involve long distances, the ideal glasses to use are those that protect the eyes from the wind and from drying out. It would be important to look at your options and see what each offers.

Also it pays to consider your eye condition before the actual purchase. If you have been initially diagnosed with an eye problem, then you should opt for prescription sunglasses. There are different options for this type. There are digital, single vision or multi-focal lens, and polarized lens material.

When choosing, take into account the cost and the application. UV protection is another key component when buying sunglasses. It is good advice to obtain a pair that can give ultimate protection from the sun?s rays. This is an easy thing to decide on since there are figures to show which offers a good barrier to ultraviolet radiation. But contrary to this, picking the lens and frame has become a more complicated task. This is because the overwhelming options can confuse you. Add to this the fact there are as many good choices as there are bad. And so again, you have to be guided with the features you are looking for.

Look for a pair with lens that is made of a material that does not shatter so in case a collision happens, there are no broken pieces to enter your eyes. Polycarbonate and Trivex are materials that don?t shatter and at the same time provide UV protection. In terms of the frame, choose one which completely covers the eye area for safety reasons.

Durability, comfort and style are also important factors to account for. Make sure to invest in sunglasses that will endure long years of use. Whether it is prescription maui jim you are after or any other type, search for a pair of specs that is comfortable to wear and one that looks good in you. If you can hit two or more birds with one stone, would you ignore the chance?

This writer confesses that every time she does not put on any prescription sunglasses, her headaches recurs. She now utilizes them on a regular basis since she is struggling from vertigo.

Ladies, why would it be an issue for you if a guy you're dating ...

(No, this is not a personal issue for me)

Bonus: I can think of a popular 80's movie where a male character had this condition?can you name it? Hints: Actor, William Hurt; top-selling soundtrack for baby-boomers

I don't think there are too many men out there where this is applicable, so I'm thinking either:

1) It's just too weird or inconvenient
2) why bother when there are so many other men out there who are normal
3) You don't enjoy the other forms of penetration
4) You enjoy giving oral too much (or it's been your experience that you won't get without first giving)

Which is the primary reason for you?

Inspired by a couple of answers to this question:

answers.yahoo.com/question/index;?

If he still has the use of his fingers and tongue, it's not an issue for me, as long as he gets some sort of satisfaction from the encounter. if he's willing to play with toys, that's good too, again as long as he gets some sort of satisfaction.

It's not a good experience for me if I think that he's pleasing me as a chore he needs to take care of.

I really don't have any idea of what movie you're referencing, I'm not a big movie watcher.

Well, it wouldn't really be an issue in any other aspect besides sex. but, given that I am in my sexual prime (and will continue to be until I am well into my 80's LOL) this could be a major problem regarding infidelity?or we could take out major stocks in the pharmaceutical company that produces viagra cuz I would be slipping that majorly into every food and beverage he would be consuming!

Probably it would be. I don't think any of your reasons are right for me. I guess we have this idea of what is 'normal sex' and that means both parties are having their needs met.

Back when 'The Big Chill" was made treatments were absent (experimental or none) for ED. Viagra was a heart medicine and the erections in males is a side effect not why the drug was originally developed.

Because I'm shallow and I want sex.

Though that would be if we first started dating. Would probably have to break it off, and I'd feel hella guilty. Depends how good it was in other areas. if it was somebody I'd already been dating for a while and then the condition arose, I'd be more committed to working through it

Because I love sex a lot & I want it everyday and if it were my husband that it happens to that's one thing, but I sure wouldn't start off a relationship that way.

If he was a good guy that I really cared about the erectile dyfunction wouldn't matter at all especially if he was the type that aimed to please ;) ~

It'd be unfortunate, but since we do it lots of different ways, it wouldn't be an issue, unless he could never get off. I like it when we both get ours.

It would obviously be very inconvenient.

Yes, it would be a deal breaker. It would not last.

Because I wouldn't be able to have sex with him, of course!

It would only be an issue for me if it were an issue for him. By that, I mean if the guy has super low self-esteem and just can't get over it, the relationship can't go anywhere because the poor guy is more concerned with berating himself than pursuing a relationship.

There's more to sex than just a penis. The guy can get a strap-on or use his hands/mouth, or we can get toys. my actual concern would be how to please HIM. I just listed that you can use more than just a penis to please a woman, but for a man who can't get it up, how does he get pleased? I'd probably try a lot of holistic cures if Western Medicine has given up on men like him for the time being and hope something worked so that he could get something out of the experience, too. The only thing I would be able to think of is giving his flaccid penis oral stimulation while manually stimulating his prostate. perhaps the double stimulation would at least cause him pleasure, even if he couldn't ejaculate.

Sex isn't a deal maker or deal breaker for me, it's the person and his personality. if he's willing to explore, then so am I. All relationships take work to function.

Is this ladies only? Sex is a lot more satisfying with his rod, than with a fake. a false one would be a huge sacrifice against my sexual satifaction. why go through that for a mere date? It would be differant if this happened to a man I loved, and had a long term relationship with.

Edit: I like hanables idea of a strap on for men. I think a prosthetic cap would make the relationship a lot more viable than a relationship limited to other kinds of sex, or hand held tools. I'd still need to know that he enjoyed it though.

Its new and expanded menu includes kosher delights such as the noodle kugel and the Brooklyn babka, as well as a healthy array of knishes and challahs. Still, main draw for this popular California Avenue establishment remains its trove of bagels and cream cheeses, including mouth-watering spreads such as sun-dried tomato, cucumber scallion and green olive-and-garlic. Izzy?s Brooklyn Bagels has been winning voters? hearts and pleasing their palates for years ? qualities that bought it a ticket to the Hall of Fame. 477 S. California Ave., Palo Alto; 650-329-0700. izzysbrooklynbagels.com

Bakery/Desserts
Our vocabulary owes French for the word ?dessert,? so it?s no surprise that Douce France induces a sugar rush par excellence. In addition to serving non-sweet treats like the scrumptious ?buffarella? ? buffalo mozzarella ? lunch sandwich, the snug bakery and cafe entices with decadent cakes and cookies, chocolaty beverages, miniature fruit-topped tarts, wispy meringues and a colorful selection of macaroons, including a blushing, fanciful pink that?ll have you living la vie en rose. #104 Town Country Village, Palo Alto; 650-322-3601.

Breakfast
Perhaps a treasured item on Hobee?s menu says it all: the Best Darn Breakfast In Town. At all three Hobee?s locations, the BDBIT comes with two eggs, served your way; ?Country Style? hashbrowns; and toast or the blueberry coffeecake people line up for. But there?s much more on the menu, from omelets and scrambles (from the Stanford Cardinal Omelet with chicken, artichoke hearts, mushrooms, spinach and cheese to the Tofu Scramble, spiced with cumin) to light bites (an oatmeal bar and a seasonal fruit plate). Hobee?s also took the top prize in the Dining With Kids category. #67 Town Country Village, Palo Alto, 650-327-4111; 4224 El Camino Real, Palo Alto, 650-856-6124; 2312 Central Expressway, Mountain View, 650-968-6050. hobees.com

Burger
A glance at a menu at The Counter is a lesson in the evolution of the burger. The sea of options is enough to make the most fervent vegetarians salivate (or, at the very least, order a veggie burger). Want cheese? Options include Tillamook Cheddar or Soft Ripened Brie. Would you prefer Tzatziki or peanut sauce? Then there?s the sea of toppings, from grilled pineapple and roasted green chilies to smoked bacon and fried onion strings. It?s not your grandpa?s burger, but so what? Our readers agreed, once again, that this bustling joint is the city?s top burger destination. 369 S. California Ave., Palo Alto; 650-321-3900. thecounterburger/paloalto

Burrito
If it could change the world, Chipotle would be the sunlight in everyone?s burrito universe. And it might change the world. In addition to being customizable, fresh, fast and out-and-out delicious, Chipotle?s burritos have integrity. The chain has found its way into Palo Alto?s hearts by supporting sustainable family farms that treat their land and animals with respect. 2675 El Camino Real, Palo Alto; 650-462-9154. chipotle.com

With a cornucopia of breads, meats, cheeses and veggies to choose from, the Village Cheese House has the right deli delicacies to satisfy a clientele as diverse as the Village People. #157 Town Country Village, Palo Alto; 650-326-9251. thevch.com

Grocery Store
Calling Trader Joe?s a ?grocery store? is kind of like calling Elvis ?the guy with the sideburns.? Yes, it?s true that this earthy, quirky and increasingly ubiquitous chain has all the bare necessities a kitchen may require. But it?s the unusual, palate-expanding products ? the mango butter, the habanera-and-lime salsa, the mojito salmon ? that have made TJ?s a local superstar. A relative newcomer to Palo Alto, the supermarket is now a flagship destination at the Town Country Village and, according to readers, the local King of Groceries. #140 Town Country Village, Palo Alto; 650-327-7018. traderjoes.com

Not surprisingly, readers chose Nola as the city?s finest happy-hour joint. Bottoms up! 535 Ramona St., Palo Alto; 650-328-2722. nolas.com==

Ice Cream/Gelato
You scream, I scream, we all scream for ice cream. That is especially true when the ice cream is dished out by Gelato Classico. Gelato, a traditional Italian dessert that has gained huge popularity in the United States, tantalizes the taste buds like no other style of ice cream. And Gelato Classico has a rich selection of flavors, from Green Tea and Hazelnut to Vanilla Bean and Caramello Chocolate Crunch. Elvis might be the king of rock, but Rick is the king of ice cream. Rick?s Rather Rich Ice Cream has satisfied Peninsula eaters for the better part of four decades, one of the reasons it has earned honors in the Best Of Palo Alto Hall of Fame. Rick?s features 48 flavors of rich and creamy ice cream, including Banana Ripple, Caramel Praline and White Chocolate Ginger. Rick?s even caters and offers ice cream cakes and novelties. Milkshake
Not to be confused with its similarly named diner cousin, the richly historied Peninsula Creamery Dairy Store Grill predates most Palo Altans. Distant as 1923 may seem from the present, this beloved checker-floored throwback continues to take care of business in the down-to-earth way it always has, creating superbly priced sandwiches, soups, salads, breakfasts and, of course, indulgent ice cream concoctions. 900 High St., Palo Alto; 650-323-3175. peninsulacreamery.com

Hall of Fame: First Year
With its nostalgic interior and show-stopping lineup of most-craved comfort foods, the upbeat Palo Alto Creamery Fountain Grill rocks on as an iconic tween hangout, family favorite and general go-to eatery. New Food/Drink Establishment
?I haven?t been this thrilled about a chocolate shop since going to the Max Brenner in Union Square, NYC,? a local Yelper wrote of Monique?s Chocolates. And readers agree. Peanut butter and jelly chocolates, chai truffle with milk chocolate and salted caramel are but a few selections of these single-origin treats. Super-rich chocolate beverages with mint, hazelnut milk chocolate, plus specialties such as torched French s?mores make Monique?s a great place to taste chocolates from different parts of the world. 539 Bryant St., Palo Alto; 650-323-9669.

Pizza
The pizza as work of art is what Howard Bulka?s creative restaurant, Howie?s Artisan Pizza, is about. Diners can choose signature salads with predetermined combinations, or assemble their own ingredients. For some extra protein, put tri-tip steak, salmon or ahi tuna on top. 168 University Ave., Palo Alto; 650-323-7688. cafesprout.com
